Sniffles
Ugh.. another rough night. She was awake and fussy around 2 again for almost 2 hours. Not a lot of fun, but we did get to see most of the 2nd half of the special on Harry Truman we were watching last night. Poor Kyra has ANOTHER cold, so I took her over to the clinic today since she was coughing and I couldn't tell if it was all in her head or in her head and chest. She was so stuffy, I had to suck out her nose with the bulb syringe this morning before she could even eat! Amazingly, we not only got an appointment for 4pm with her doctor, but we got in right on time at a same-day appointment on a weekday afternoon! We didn't even have to see the assistant that we don't really care for! Hooray! Apparently, she was scrunching or something when they measured her last time because she measured 25 inches today and was only a little over 23 a couple weeks ago at her 4 month check. They double checked since obviously one of those was wrong! She weighed 13 lbs 6 oz so she's still growing. Her doctor said her lungs are clear so that's good and gave me the dosage so she can have some guaifensin that might help some with the coughing and we're just going to keep trying to keep her nose cleared out and let her sleep a little upright until she's feeling better. If she keeps having problems with a stuffy head, the doctor may test her for allergies after 6 months.

Run-Around Day
Well, Kyra and I ran our errands today, but that was about the most exciting thing!! We went to the post office where we learned that you have to fill out a customs form to send a package to an APO and then walked down to the library to return some books and pick up "The No Cry Sleep Solution". Don't know if we'll need that... Kyra decided to start sleeping through the night most of the time the same day I put in the request for it.... She rode in her new "wrap" carrier today since there were lots of stops and I don't have to take that one off to put her in or take her out. It worked well! I definitely prefer the mei-tai or soft-structured carrier for long walks but for errands the wrap was great! Phil didn't have softball practice this evening so we got to spend a bunch of time with him tonight. :)

Still Cranky
Well, Kyra still wasn't feeling great for most of the day today after getting all the vaccines yesterday. She and I just hung out and snuggled a lot today while she recuperated since she wanted to be held pretty much all day. She was in a LITTLE better mood for a while this evening though, but I don't know if she was actually feeling better or just glad that Phil was home. She's decided that she really likes Mama's baseball cap. :)

Shots Are Icky!!
Kyra had her four month check-up at the doctor this morning. Since it was Dad's day off, he came along. Lucky us, we didn't get the assistant we don't like except for when Kyra got her shots she came in to help because they always have two to do the vaccinations if there will be more than one injection. Kyra is still growing. She weighs 13 lbs 2 oz now and is 23 inches long. (That's right around the 50th percentile for both.) She's doing good otherwise. The only concern at all is that her head is consistently measuring a little below the "average" range for normal. Since it's still growing along the right curve though, her doctor isn't too worried, just wants to see her an extra time between six and ten months.
After her appointment we went out to grandmas to visit and to celebrate her 4 month birthday. Kya was NOT in a good mood after the first half hour or so. Her vaccines apparently made her A LOT crankier this time, even with the baby tylenol, possibly because they were done a little different this time. She got some as individual injections instead of a mixed one since she didn't need the Hep. B today. Poor baby went to sleep at 7:00 tonight instead of 10:30 like she has been!

A Win!!!
Well, Kyra decided that she'd rather not be in the nursery today, so I had to go get her out before the first song was even over! She was good through the music and the beginning of the message, but we watched part of the message on the t.v. out in the foyer. She did finally doze off in her carrier though so we could go back in for the last 10 minutes or so. She was very good at the softball game and had lots of fun, as did everyone else since we WON!!! This was the team's first win in about 3 years, so it was a very exciting event! We also got 7 runs (the limit for most of the innings) in the first inning and SIXTEEN runs in the open inning! I think Kyra was in such a good mood because it was nice out and everyone else was in a good mood too! She even sat in her little chair for a while and played in the grass.

Crank the AC!!
It was HOT today, so we didn't do much that involved leaving the bedroom since that's the room where the air conditioner was hooked up already! We got to watch Hazel for a few hours this afternoon. She's getting big but she's still so cute!! Echo has decided that babysitting is his job so he lays on the floor and wrestles with her very carefully and he scolds her if she gets too noisy or too rough. At one point, he barked at her when she was being rambunctious when he had decided it was break time and she went right over and lay on his bed next to him. Such good puppies! Kyra thinks it's funny to watch them play. Kyra also thinks it's funny if we sing Veggie Tales songs. :D This evening, after we'd dropped Hazel off at home and picked up dinner that didn't involve turning the stove on, we got home just in time for Phil to finish getting the office A.C. in. HOORAY! Air conditioning is WONDERFUL!

Chomp! Chomp! Chomp!
Kyra had a bit of a rough day today. She's definitely teething and is constantly chewing at stuff and rubbing on her gums. (Or as Phil puts it, she seems like she's trying to pull them out!) She doesn't really seem like she's in PAIN, just uncomfortable. Uncomfortable enough to keep her from wanting to nap! Due to the not wanting to nap, it was sort of a long day for me! She wasn't in a bad mood or anything though, just awake. Phil did bring her home some more teether things and we chilled them for her. She liked those. I think next we'll try freezing some washcloths for her to chew on.

Mothers' Day

Kyra gave me a WONDERFUL Mothers' Day present, she slept for 7 1/2 hours last night!! I know that most pediatricians consider 5-6 hours as sleeping through the night, so she's technically been doing it for a while most nights, but that just doesn't cut it for me!! I woke up feeling SOOOO rested this morning, it was wierd!! Today after church we took Kyra to the zoo for the first time! :) She was very good and had a good time. The only part she really didn't like was the big life-size T-Rex that was part of the animatronic dinosaur exhibit. The first time he roared, she was just watching and seemed interested but the second time it startled her and she jumped and started to SCREAM!!! She calmed down fast though and she liked the "little brother" T-Rex that was by the gate. He moved and roared too but much more quietly. She also really liked the fish swimming. When we were headed out towards the exit, we stopped in the gift shop and since it was her first trip to the zoo, I was going to get her a little stuffed animal if there was one she liked that was the right size for her to play with. I showed her a bunch of little, bright colored toys. There was a red toucan, a green turtle and some little multi-colored monkeys. She either turned away or turned away and cried every time! Then when we were headed over towards where Phil was, she caught sight of a shelf full of Visayan Warty Pigs that were almost as big as she was!! She thought they were GREAT and started chattering away to them. We did NOT get one for her, as they were too big for her to hold. I told her she'd have to wait and ask one of her grandmas if they came to the zoo with her.

My Little Shopping Buddy
Kyra was pretty tired today. Of course, this could have something to do with not wanting to actually get all the way to sleep until midnight and then deciding to get up before 8.... :) She helped me sort through her 0-3 month clothes today to work on getting rid of most of them and then we went grocery shopping. She's getting to be really good company when I'm shopping! She was awake the whole time today and didn't fuss at all until we were checking out but then, I was about ready to fuss then too due to having to deal with a particularly incompetent cashier. She talked to me a little while we were in the produce department and paid rapt attention while I told her about all the things we were buying and what we'd be using them for. She even "helped" Dad unload some of the groceries when we got home. (He finished work just as we were loading the car to go home so we got to ride home with him. :) )

Chatty Cathy... er... Kyra...
Kyra was laughing and talking all morning this morning! I think she's finally figuring out how to do it intentionally and now she gets a big kick out of it! She especially liked when I played some videos on the computer for her of when she was an itty bitty. She just stared, cooed and waved her arms! Apparently she finds looking at the sweet baby just as fun as we do. Mama got a little teary eyed watching them though! She's already just so different from that chubby, bleary eyed newborn! We went to Taco Bell for dinner tonight because Dad's softball practice was canceled and Kyra was in a GREAT mood while we were there. Very cooperative. She even let me eat with no fussing. I think it was because there were several older ladies in the taco bell and she was trying to get their attention. Apparently she succeeded because one came over to ask about her. :)
