Webcams Are Great!

So now that she's mastered rolling over and laying on her tummy leaning up on her arms, Kyra is working on push-ups! She's doing pretty good at getting her shoulders and chest up off the ground too. It was HOT today so we had the air running for part of the day and we kept pretty cool in the house. Kyra got to wear one of her cutest little sun-suits though. After Phil got home she was sitting on his lap while he was at his desk and she realized that at that angle she could lean over and reach her toes with her mouth! She leaned over and bit them a couple times but then mostly switched to just lunging at them. I think she realized that it HURT when she bit her toes! My cousin Marie is in Wisconsin for a few weeks visiting from South Dakota and right now she's in Reedsburg with my Grandma Betty for a few days visiting my parents. Since we haven't seen Marie for a LONG time and she hasn't seen Kyra yet, we got on the web-cam to talk to her and Grandma Betty, Grandma Susan, Grandpa Roger and Sandy, my parents' neighbor. Kyra wasn't willing to talk or show off, but she did chew on her doll and didn't scream. :)

5 Months!!!

Kyra is five months old today! She had lots of fun playing in her exersaucer while I got her cake ready for blowing out her FIVE candles. She was VERY interested in her cake and candles and was laughing and giggling... until I pointed the camera at her. :) I know, it looks dangerous in the video having the lit candles on the tray of her highchair.. but she can't reach the stuff on the tray! (She can BARELY reach the tray. :)) She's still just a little punkin'! Happy 5 Months Kyra! We're SO enjoying having you here!

Tummy Time

Now that Kyra's able to roll onto and off of her belly, she's MUCH happier with tummy time! She's also VERY cute while she's having her tummy time. :) Just in the short time since she's started being more willing to lay on her belly, she's getting so strong! She's holding her head up so well now while she's on her belly!

Goodbye Denali Cat

Today we took Denali in to be put to sleep. He was just getting SO sick, although for someone who didn't know him they may not have noticed! He was still awfully strong and social for a cat who hadn't really eaten in about three weeks. Phil decided he didn't want to be in the room, so we just took Kyra with us and she waited in the waiting room with Dad. The staff at the vet were wonderful and it wasn't as bad as I expected to be. It was over VERY fast. We're sure going to miss our Denali though. He was such a wonderful cat. We're probably going to wait quite a while before thinking about another kitty. Finding another that is as accepting of a baby would probably be impossible! I know that when we're ready to get another it will take us a long time to find one that even comes close to measure up. We're sad to say goodbye to our bed-warming, baby-loving, potato chip-munching buddy.

Busy Little Bee

Well, Kyra was VERY busy today. Now that she's figured out how to roll easily and scoot on her back she's loving being down on her blankie on the floor for short periods of time. When she WASN'T playing today though, she was REALLY clingy and didn't want to lay down for naps. I think part of the problem is that now that she can roll, she has problems stopping when it's time to sleep! We did finally figure out how to keep her 3-6 months pants from falling down. We put them on UNDER her onesies and rompers instead of pulling them up over the top. Hey, whatever works!

Naptime!

Phil was tired today and took a LONG nap, so Kyra took one with him. :) She's getting to be so mobile! Especially for someone who can't even sit up yet! Besides the rolling all over both ways, she does this funny little scooting thing on her back (she can't be bothered to work out how to move on her tummy) where she pushes up with her feet into a sort of bridge and shoves herself along on her shoulders. Looks weird, but boy is she quick! No more naps alone on the big bed for her!

Fathers' Day

Today was Fathers' Day. Kyra decided she was getting up a little early, around 7:15, to wish Phil a happy Dad's Day. :) While they snuggled, I got breakfast for Phil to have in bed and got his presents from Kyra and I right away. He got a watch with Kyra's picture in the face, a set of playing cards with a different picture of her on each card and a camo t-shirt that says "world's greatest dad" from her and a video game he'd been wanting from me. They wore their Hawaiian shirts to church today since Fathers' Day is Hawaiian shirt day at Mountainview and they were so cute in them! Then we made a FAST stop home and at Wal-Mart to pick up party stuff and headed out to Phil's mom's to celebrate G.G. Pat's birthday early since at least one of them is going to be out of town the next two weekends. Poker was lots of fun! G.G. Pat watches poker on t.v. a lot and she did great with the hold'em until the very end when she was getting a little tired. Phil was having an off day and was the first one out of chips, but I let him play mine while I got the cake set up. :) Kyra was good almost the whole time and she really liked seeing the 79 candles on G.G. Pat's cake.

Shopping Girls!

Today Kyra and I did the errands we meant to do yesterday! We went to the party store in Gresham to get a couple things for Fathers' Day/Grandma Pat's birthday party. Then we went to Wal-Mart for some groceries and ice cream for tomorrow. We meant to go to the library too... but I forgot. :) We didn't see Phil while we were there. She looked for him the whole time we were shopping and checking out too! She loves playing with him in the evenings after he gets home! It's her favorite part of the day. She's getting to be such a little chatterbox! I'm sure she knows exactly what she's talking about, but we sure have no idea!

What a rush!!!

Well, I had big plans to run errands today while Phil was at work but Kyra had plans of her own. :) So we ended up running crazy busy to make it to Costco with Phil after he finished work and we had dinner in order to make it to his his softball scrimmage this evening. We went along to the scrimmage since it wasn't just a regular practice and it was lots of fun! Not only did Kyra have a blast playing on her blankie in the grass, but Phil's team won the scrimmage! Yay!

Kitty Bonding

Well, Kyra's kitty is still VERY sick, but he seems determined now to spend as much time as possible socializing with us or her. I'm still amazed, he's more tolerant of all her baby behavior (like the grabbing and pulling on hair and the drooling) than many people I've met! It's just so sad and frustrating that the pet who has accepted the baby the best is the one who is now so ill.

Nasty Teeth...

Poor baby had a ROUGH day teething wise. She spent a good share of the day crying and wanting to be snuggled. She slept most of the time that she wasn't upset poor thing and was chewing on everything! She's getting to have quite a bite! The only pics we got today were between her evening naps and she didn't really even want to let me take those!

Like a Weed!

Kyra and I did some housework today until Phil got home from work. She was so happy when he got home. :) She's sure growing! The little dress she had on today has gotten so short on her that she had to have pants on underneath to keep her warm enough. :) After Phil got home we went to the library to pick up some books I had on hold and some for Kyra and swung by Fred Meyer's and the post office and then we went over to the outlet mall. Phil got a new Hawaiian shirt at the big sale at Big Dog to wear for Hawaiian shirt day on Fathers' Day at church. We got a Sesame Street Sleepytime dvd for Kyra too. She likes it so far. Mama likes it too because it has all the old songs she remembers!!!

We All Scream for Ice Cream!

Well, we mostly just enjoyed each other's company today. :) We did walk over to Wal-Mart and get stuff for ice cream sundaes in between naps but that was about the extent of the excitement for the day. As tired as we all were though, that's probably a good thing. I even fell asleep on the bed when I was putting Kyra down for her first nap!

They Win AGAIN!! YAY!!!

Well Kyra did OK in church this morning, but not great. I did have to leave for a good share of the message but was there for all the singing and the reason I had to leave for the message wasn't crying, so at least I got to watch it out on the monitors. Apparently I should stop letting Kyra watch the services on cable because now she thinks that when Pastor T.J. talks at church she should do the same thing she does at home when he comes on the t.v. and get excited and yell at him! Kyra did great at the game and so did Dad's team!!! They won again!! The game was at 4:30 this week but we got there early. It was the first day we'd been out of the house at naptime since we started scheduling them but Kyra was awesome! A little after four she just nodded off in the wrap carrier and took a good nap and then she woke up and was pretty cheerful for the rest of the game. She played with her toys, showed off how cute she could be, and drooled like a champ. :)

My Little Rollin' Stone

Well, she rolled the other way today!!! :) This morning she was laying on the bed on her tummy and she rolled right over! She did it once more while I was grabbing the camera and then did it again in the video that I put on here. After that I was trying to get a video with the t.v. off in the background, but she's apparently decided that since she can get off of her back now, she's content to play on her belly because she lay on her tummy for about 3 minutes with no complaints after that! She did NOT want to take her naps today! I kept putting her down in the bassinet after she'd nod off and she'd be awake ten or fifteen minutes later! Finally, for the four o'clock nap, I laid her down and went in to check on her about a half an hour later after she hadn't made a peep! Well, the cat had crawled in the bassinet and was curled up by her feet taking a bath and purring so the bassinet was warm, vibrating and swaying gently from side to side! No wonder she was content. :)

Mr. Sandman, Bring Me a Dream!

So far so good! She's sleeping! Nights are going pretty good and she's actually napping on schedule! The first nap is still REALLY short though. Gotta keep working on bumping that wake-up time back. She was very good in the bath-tub today too. She grinned, played and splashed! She seemed to like the apple scent of her new kid conditioner too. (I know... she's 4 months old and doesn't really need her hair conditioned, but I sure feel better when my hair is soft and not tangly!)

TICKLE MONSTERS!!!

Well, the nap schedule is in place! Kyra now takes naps at ten, one and four. I think it will work out well.. once we back her wake-up for the day time to sometime before 9:30, which was when she got up today! I'm gonna back it up a half hour every day until we're at 7. She is doing pretty good at night! She goes to sleep by 7:45 after her story and snuggles and wakes up around 8:30 for a snack and then once more just before 11 there's a looong stretch of sleeping, but that's ok with me! I'm always up at 8:30 and usually just getting to bed around 11 so it's perfect. :) She has also decided that the knowing she's GOING to get tickled is just as funny as actually getting tickled. Apparently she's gonna be just as ticklish as her Mama!

Sleep Strategem

Well, the new sleep routine continues. Tracked her sleeping last night again and naps today. Tonight we're putting the new routine in place for getting ready for and into bed. At 7:00p.m. I get her changed and in her jammies. Then Phil comes in and reads a book and cuddles and then we say bedtime prayers together before she nurses and goes to sleep with her bink and one of the Bobs. The next step will be to add scheduled nap times. I'm really hoping that will help as her nap times/lengths have been so chaotic!

What I'd Give for a Good Night's Sleep!

Kyra was a cutie today, but then, she's a cutie every day! We're starting a new nap/bedtime routine that's (sort of) from "The No-Cry Sleep Solution" since she's not ready to CIO yet and we need more sleep! That and she's sleeping 7+ hours straight through about every other night, so I think with a little work we'll get her to where we're on a good nap/sleep schedule! Today, I'm tracking all of her naps and then all of her waking up tonight.

Great-Grandma's Girl!

We went over to Phil's mom's to visit all of them today and Kyra was finally a good girl and let G. G. Pat hold her without fussing!!! TWICE in one day too! Hooray!! She was in a good mood for the most part all day, giggling and showing off for everyone. Apparently all that being good wore her out though as she came home and went to bed early!! She's such a sweetie. :)

Busy Day!!!

We had a crazy busy day today, but Kyra mostly did GREAT!!! Since she's mostly over her cold, but still has a little bit of a stuffy/runny nose we kept her out of the nursery at church today and she didn't want to sit in service so we ended up out in the foyer wandering around with two of the other mommies that have little girls just about her age for a good share of the message. I think part of the issue was that we were at early service since Phil had the early softball game today and she's not used to that. She did good for the rest of the day though pretty much! She had fun at the softball game and at one point she got ALL excited about halfway through the game when Phil was at catcher and turned around long enough for her to notice that it was him. She let out a GREAT BIG YELL!! Of course though, she was also really disappointed when the other guy there that was wearing a bright orange hat turned out to NOT be dad... although... he had a good hundred and twenty pounds on Phil... so I don't really see where she got the two confused. The LAST big event of the day was another birthday party for another two year old boy. The birthday boy's little sister is just over a week younger than Kyra and they each thought the other was VERY interesting and spent a long time talking and giggling at each other. :)
