Not much to say today... but when we weren't just puttering around working on stuff in the house, Kyra helped me on the computer. She really likes typing on my keyboard, so I decided to let her type her own blog post today.
This evening we went to an Uppercase Living party at Amy's house. Kyra took a late nap in the car and wasn't quite done with it when we got to Amy's! Tristan had ALSO just woken up from a nap and was ALSO cranky, although, he got over it faster than Kyra. When we were leaving home, Phil had said to Kyra that she should behave for Mama, and if she had to be bad for someone, be bad for Auntie Amy! Boy was she ever! As soon as we got in the house, I handed her over to Amy and she took one look at her and started bawling. This was sort of the theme for the evening. She FINALLY let Amy hold her without fussing about it about five minutes before we left while I was packing up her diaper back. :)
Kyra was in the jumperoo today while I was working in the kitchen and about 2 minutes after I walked out of the room she got a little fussy so I was talking to her while I worked. She stopped fussing and got REALLY quiet so I assumed she was playing with her doll. Lo and behold, when I walked into the livingroom a couple minutes later to check on her, she was sound asleep in the jumperoo. Poor little thing wore herself out! I had to get some pictures before I woke her up and took her to bed. :)
Kyra's getting pretty good at "giving" kisses. :) They're pretty drooley, slimey kisses, but kisses all the same! Also, she tried out her seat some more today while I worked on taking the embroidered lettering off. The harnesses aren't in it so she's just sitting in the seat here (and yes, I was close enough to grab her) but she's in it! She sure likes her fuzzy seat. She rubs her hand up and down the side a lot. And doesn't she look good in it?
Today, we sort of took the morning off and then we went to Costco! Radar needed food and Kyra and I needed to order our birthday cake! It took us a long time to pick one (especially since there was a pokey man in the way who didn't know what to order because his wife had told him to order a marble cake with raspberry filling and Costco has neither marble cake nor raspberry filling). We picked a rainbow one... I think. :) I can't remember which one we decided on now, but I'll post pictures after we get it!
We went out to Grandma & Grandpas today and while we were there we walked out to see their garden! Kyra got to find out about the OTHER kind of raspberries, the non-spitty kind. She got to smell a few of the ripe ones and she was really WISHING she was old enough to taste one. Next year!
No, we're not teaching Kyra to play spin the bottle. :) We ARE working on teaching her to give kisses though! Her newest "trick" is to (when she feels like it) respond to Phil or I making a kissyface by leaning forward and giving us a "kiss" so we make the kissy noise for her! She's such a cutie. :)
Kyra thoroughly enjoyed her first 4th of July! She and I went over to Wal-Mart during the day to grab some extra ice to make homemade green tea ice cream. We took some out to Sandy where we were meeting our friends and their kids for a picnic and to watch the fireworks! She was very good and had a blast since their youngest is a girl about a week younger than her and their older four are lots of fun to watch! I forgot the camera though so the pics are thanks to our friend and Phil's phone. She was awake for all the fireworks and really liked them, see?
One of the things we're working on teaching Kyra right now is to put her arms up for us when she wants to be picked up! Before, she wouldn't do it at all and now she's getting to where she'll put them up part way on the couch and all she'll usually put ONE arm up in the jumperoo or the exersaucer. She hasn't mastered doing it when laying down yet, and she has a tendency to put her arms up for Phil when he reaches for her, and then pull them back down by her sides real quick when his hands get close because she thinks he might tickle her. :) Silly girl
Today we ran all over Gresham comparison shopping non-allergen (no grain/alternative protein) dog foods for Echo and then went to Wal-Mart to do some shopping there. We hit the feed store first but they couldn't beat the other prices we'd already checked out so then we went to Petco and found one to try that was more affordable and all natural to boot. (Natural Balance Potato & Duck if anyone is looking for a dog food...) Kyra did so great bopping in and out of the carseat and her wrap! She even took nice naps in the car in between stores. When we got the dogfood at Petco I settled on one after looking at all of them and carried it up to the check-out. It was a 30 lb bag so not tiny but not huge either. While I was waiting for the cashier to finish with the woman ahead of us another employee stopped next to the register and told me he'd be right back to carry that out for me! I said no, it was fine and we could handle it but he said he'd get it because I "had my hands full" which I thought was funny since Kyra was in her wrap so both hands were free and I had managed to carry it up and put it on the register counter just fine! Anyway, he insisted on carrying it out so we let him. Silly people don't realize just how much Kyra and I can accomplish by ourselves!
We've been having "issues" lately with Kyra's infant bucket seat. She's scrunching up when we put her in it which makes it REALLY hard to get her positioned right and on top of that it seems like the belts are pushing her down too far in the seat in order to get them tight enough AND she's getting sort of cranky because she wants to be in a more seated, less laying down position. We tried putting her more upright even (more than the 45 degree angle that's required for infants, I didn't know you could do that until recently) and she still is pretty uncomfy seeming so it's time for a new seat! After taking her to Target to sit in the display Britax Marathon and Roundabout and talking to the ladies on the car-seat.org forum we picked a Marathon and I spent a week SCOURING the internet for one that was a good deal. Finally decided to get it from Albee Baby because they had the retiring collegiate covers on sale for $90 off the original list price with '07 manufacture dates. Even with losing that year off the seat we'll still have five years before it expires and she will more than likely have outgrown the seat heightwise by then anyway so we'll just put her in a Britax Frontier then. I love the Marathon because she can be rearfacing in it to 35lbs or the height limit of the seat! (I just doubt she's going to stay short enough to be in this seat until she's 35lbs even if it IS a longer backed seat.) THEN we had to pick a color. Since they're collegiate covers they're solid color covers with the team logo embroidered on the top, but we're going to put a patch over the logo since none of them were teams we liked. We ended up going with the Kansas State University purple/indigo cover and it's gonna be here next tuesday. YAY!
We had another "poker party" at Grandma and Grandpa's house with G.G. Pat today. It ended up being LONG even though we were TRYING to make it a shorter game! We played tournament style this time (that's where you play until all but one person has run out of chips and they win) with less chips. Phil and his mom ended up playing heads up for at least two hours (maybe more..) , trading chips back and forth, but eventually (finally) Phil won. It was WELL past Kyra's bedtime then so she was mostly just napping. Kyra did REALLY well there all day. She wore her bee top and skirt that she's just now fitting into which impressed her Grandma B. She was a really good girl and was good at nap times and even napped in the pack'n'play there. She practiced drinking out of her new, non-leeching plastic tippy cups, read her books and played with her dolly. Such a sweet baby!
Today, after church, Kyra took a 2 and a half hour nap! Apparently playing with the toys in the nursery (my good girl stayed in there for ALL of service today!) wore her out! She mostly skipped her 5:00 p.m. nap since she didn't wake up from the 2:00 p.m. nap until 4:30! We had a BBQ/Potluck to go to tonight and it was thundering and lightning when we got there so it turned into an indoor party instead of a backyard party. It was lots of fun and Kyra was charming, cute and well behaved almost the whole time. She even fell asleep right on schedule at 8:00 in her wrap carrier.
Kyra is REALLY starting to enjoy her exersaucer so I think we may be moving it from the nursery out to the livingroom in the near future. Oh where, oh where to put all the baby stuff? But then... when you have an infant that really only wants to be put down if it's fun to be down (and even then only for 10 minutes at a time) you have to have fun options or you'd never get to use sharp objects, the oven or the bathroom! That and since we spent less 2nd hand on the swing, the exersaucer and the jumperoo together than the exersaucer would have been new.. I don't feel too bad.
We went grocery shopping today. :) Kyra is SUCH a good grocery shopper. I've always heard women complain about how much harder it gets to go grocery shopping all of a sudden when you have that first baby so I did not anticipate it to be so easy! She rides in her wrap carrier, one of the mei-tais or in her Ergo and she talks to me and watches things and people. She NEVER fusses and once in a while she even steals a nap. She spends lots of time looking for Phil because she knows that we usually see him at Wal-Mart and gets very excited when she does find him! I always see lots of people who are trying to carry their infants and toddlers while shopping (or worse, infants in bucket seats!), chasing their toddlers through the store, trying to soothe screaming babies and toddlers in the cart or struggling to get the groceries in around their HUGE infant bucket carseats without waking the little one inside. It just looks like so much extra stress and WORK! They always look like their backs hurt and their nerves are worn. They all need to know about babywearing! I always wish they'd notice my little Kyra and ask about her carrier and if it's hard to use, but she's so quiet, she hardly ever gets any attention at all beyond the cashiers commenting on how cute she is and what a good baby. If only they knew that without that lovely carrier she's be just another screaming infant!
Kyra sure is getting tall! She's outgrowing the length on a lot of her 3-6 jammies and stuff already. I'm gonna have to get the 6-9 month drawers out this week and start trying to go through them to get out the jammies and one piece summer stuff (and anything else summer that isn't too huge around the middle). She didn't feel like having her picture taken today and decided instead that she would try to EAT the camera! Silly baby.
Well, we didn't win today's softball game, but boy, it was a good game anyway though! Before we went to the game, we stopped at Target so Kyra could "try-on" some convertible carseats before we bought one online. They have a lot of their summery stuff on clearance and so I was looking at the baseball hats since we've been looking for a cap that isn't WAY too big for Kyra since she always likes ours so much. They had a pink one with a star on the front and a lavender one with flowers on the front. When I showed them both to Phil and asked if we should get the purple his exact words were"The pink one's so COOL!" *lol* He insists that he meant the star on the front, but even so, those are not words you would have heard coming out of my husband's mouth before Kyra!
When I was little, I collected Cabbage Patch Dolls. I have gotten a few more since them and have saved them. Yesterday, I went back and got one of the "baby" ones down off the shelf for Kyra to play with! She thinks it's pretty exciting! I'm gonna have to dig around and find the rest of the baby dolls for her. You know, some people may say that boys and girls would play the same way if we didn't treat them differently.. but I don't believe that for a minute! Kyra's favorite toys are already the soft little toys and the ones with faces. My nephews favorites at this age were always cars and blocks! She thinks her doll is pretty funny. :) Lots of giggles and grins when she sees it!
