Veggies

So we've found a GREAT new way to entertain Kyra, especially when we're eating. She loves chewing on big chunks of veggies! She may not have any teeth to actually eat them yet, but she loves having the same thing that we have. Today she and Phil had zucchini slices for a snack and then she chewed on some green beans at dinner tonight while we ate. I think when those teeth finally do start coming in she's going to have LOTS of fun with finger foods!

Pull-Ups

So our daughter who as of yet can't crawl or get herself into a sitting position unassisted can officially pull herself up to standing in the crib all on her own!!! Needless to say she won't be back in her crib until Phil can help me drop the mattress down a level. She sure gave me a scare though when I went in to check on her!

Family Dinner

So we finally got brave enough to try feeding Kyra her dinner WHILE we were eating our instead of before or after and it actually worked out really well! We pulled the chair with her high chair right up to the table between us and fed her a little at a time as we were eating. In between bites she worked on her tippy cup and she got more water on her than in her but since she was content and we were both getting to eat with two free hands we didn't really mind.

Where's Dad?

Today, around 3 o'clock Kyra started asking for Phil and looking for him. I don't know if that was when she noticed that he hadn't come home for lunch, or if she was just thinking it was getting close to time for him to be off. He's been getting off at 4 a lot of days because they've been having him come in early but today he worked until five. She fell asleep about twenty minutes before he got home so she didn't even get to see him right away, but she sure had lots of fun playing peek-a-boo with him after dinner!

Growth Spurt?

So most of Kyra's food is home processed, but I messed up on the sweet potatoes and couldn't get them to puree smooth so until I get a chance to do another batch next week, she's having jarred sweet potatoes once in a while. (She gets jarred stuff and apple sauce in the little individual cups when we're out and about anyway because that's just easier.) Last night she had sweet potatoes for dinner because she hadn't had any for a week or so and then again tonight because we were at Grandmas and that was the convenient jar. Both nights she ate an entire four ounce jar of stage 2 sweet potatoes! Last night she also ate about 2 ounces of applesauce and then tonight she ate a little applesauce (maybe an ounce) and several bites of my watermelon. Goodness that girl has been hungry lately! She also had fun in Grandma and Grandpa's garden "helping" pick green beans and zuchinni. Grandpa B. gave her a zuchinni to see and she tried to grab it and take a bite!

"Bubba" Dad

So recently Kyra seems to have forgotten how to make D's. She says D's quite a bit but when she tries to make a D on purpose they often come out like B's. She's also getting a little creative with her A's so recently she's started calling Phil "Bubudubud" instead of "Dadadadad". We're working on getting the D's back since Phil doesn't really feel like being Bubba or Dubba forever.

Peas'n'Apples

Kyra helped me with laundry again today. (She loves when I let her help sort the socks because she gets to sit by the pile of as yet unpaired ones and wave them around!) She was a good girl today, and played in her baby jail for a while and ate a big dinner for dad with no complaining other than once in a while that he wasn't getting the food in fast enough to suit her! I think if I'd let her have peas and applesauce at every meal, she'd eat great all the time! (No, not mixed together. :) )

Baby Jail

Well Kyra had a WONDERFUL time in the nursery today and played, laughed and showed off her tricks. After that we grabbed some lunch and then headed to Wal-Mart to pick up our site-to-store stuff that had gotten there! YAY! It was Kyra's swimsuit (size 3, won't be getting into that one for a while) and her new SUPERYARD!!! After we got home we set it up on a blanket for her and she decided that it is a LOT of fun to play in... as long as Dad is playing with her. :) She actually does like it a lot as long as she's in the mood to be playing on the floor and she'll play in it by herself happily for a little while at least. I'm just so glad it got here before she's really crawling, crawling, she already moves so fast with just rolling and creeping!!!

FEED ME!!!

So I think Kyra must be having a growth spurt. Besides eating her normal breakfast of fruit and having a rice rusk at lunch time which is a newly added meal for her, she at two whole cubes of peas plus rice and an entire cube of applesauce for dinner! Usually we consider getting two cubes in a really great meal. (A cube is an ice cube, so about an ounce or half a jar of stage one baby food in the little size jars.) She also nursed like crazy today and she's been trying to get away with sleeping until nine in the morning, which I'm trying to discourage since she's also been wanting to get up at nine in the evening and play until eleven. I think our girl is growing again!!!

COOKIES!!!

Ok, so not really cookies, but we finally found an alternative to teething biscuits that don't have any wheat in them. Kyra get a rice rusk every day now and she's thinking they're pretty exciting! She even got a good share of the first one in her instead of on her, so I was sort of surprised. She is still getting over her cold and isn't sleeping the best as a result, which of course means that Phil and I are both exhausted. I am surprised though at how well she's doing with taking her medicine. She usually opens right up and swallows it even though you can tell she doesn't like it. Such a sweet girl.

Pet Store

Today, we stopped at Wal-Mart to do some shopping and then went to Pet Smart to get dog food for Echo. I don't think Kyra has ever been in the pet store when she was actually awake before. She thought it was great! She loved looking at the dogs walking around in there. We watched the gerbils for a long time and she giggled! She liked the hampsters and guinea pig too, but they were less entertaining for her since they were mostly asleep this afternoon. She liked the parakeets, finches and the canary and she got VERY, VERY excited when I took her over to where they have the adoptable cats. She especially liked one big grey and black tabby tom that was sleeping half on his belly up on the shelf in his enclosure area. He kept opening one eye to look at her and then he would roll part way on to his back and she would just burst out laughing every time he did that.

One Inch at a Time!!

Kyra's newest thing is creeping. Well, sort of. She can move herself in whatever general direction she chooses, given that there's something there she wants badly enough! She ends up falling on her face/tummy a lot and spends a lot of time up on all fours rocking forward and backward like she's warming up before she takes big lunges (most of which end up with her flying forward a few inches onto her nose) but she is sure getting closer to being able to crawl! It's probably a good thing she does most of her practicing on the bed so far. Today she finally seems to be figuring out that she needs to move her hands too, not just her knees. :)

7 Months!!!

Kyra is officially 7 months old today! Her big birthday excitement was that she got to try banana for the first time. Her dad and I ate her cupcakes after lighting sparkly candles on them for her but she didn't think that was very interesting. She is creeping now, but still not crawling. I'm not complaining though, she's a handful to keep up with already and I'm so hoping that she puts off crawling for another few days until her superyard gets here! She also still doesn't have any teeth, another thing I'm not about to complain about. :) She is definitely teething though! She also has another little cold right now so we're babying her a bit but once she's over it we're going to start putting her in her crib in her room at bedtime too instead of just for naps.

Dedication Day

Our church had Baby Dedication Weekend this weekend and we dedicated Kyra at the early Sunday service today. She was VERY good up on stage (in fact all three babies that were dedicated at her service were!) The verse we chose for her was from the story of Hannah and Sameul where Hannah is talking to Eli about how she is the woman who was there and so upset the year before but here she is and God has answered her prayers for a child, and that she will dedicate him to the Lord. The pastor did have some trouble remembering how to pronounce her name though. :) He kept calling her "Kai Ruh" instead of "Key Ruh". Poor T.J. didn't get it right once without being corrected. It was so funny, by the third time he said it wrong the whole congregation laughed!! Kyra did NOT want to sit through the rest of service though so she and I spent a good share of it out in the foyer. After church we went to Heidi's with Phil's mom, Curt, John, Amy and Tristan who were all there for Kyra's dedication today. It was fun!

Dedication Dress Drama

You know, there are days when life would be easier with a boy. :) We decided to put Kyra in the dress her Aunt J. sent her when she was born for her dedication. It's a 12 M so it's technically still a size and a half too big, but since it has a sash that ties nice and tight around the waist it will just look a little more like a ball gown than a party dress. I tried it on her today with two colors of tights and some ruffly socks to see what worked and finally decided on the socks but when I tried to put the shoes on that I was planning on having her wear I realized that she's outgrown them in the past 2 weeks!! So after Phil got home we went to four stores looking for baby dress shoes that would fit AND would match her dress. After giving up on finding white, peach or green (who'd think you couldn't find white baby shoes in July?) we finally settled on some really pretty pale pink beaded ones at target that were light enough that they might pass for peach. I think Phil is realizing just how different having a little girl is!

Which Numbers Again?

So I've recently decided to try to go BPA free, especially when it comes to stuff that Kyra's mouth, food and drinks come in contact with. (BPA is the nasty and possibly dangerous stuff that leaches out of certain plastics, especially under certain conditions.) So I looked all over online and figured out how to tell which plastics are BPA free and which aren't by looking at the recycling numbers on thigns that have them. 1, 2, 4 & 5 are all safe (although, 1 & 2 are recommended for single use only, not reuse) and 3, 6 & 7 aren't. I already knew her tippy cups were okay because I looked them up before I bought them and I checked all her teething toys (most of which don't have recycling symbols) today. She and I went through all the plastic dishes and cups today and I don't know if it's because we buy cheap plasticware (apparently some of the BPA plastics are also the most microwave resistant ones) but most of what we have is already # 4 or 5 and therefore BPA free! We still need to replace Phil's and my water bottles but after recycling all the plastic dishes that wern't safe we still have more than enough to use as we had too much to start with. I sort of wish I'd done this a long time ago if I'd known how easy it was going to be!
